Vintage sculpture of a little owl 13"

This charming vintage sculpture of a little owl has been molded from powdered stone - it is solid and very heavy. This was an artisan made sculpture - the artist specialized in life-like animals and birdlife found in Provence. 

In Provence, France, the wild owl population is a captivating feature of the region's diverse wildlife. Among the various species, the most notable are the Eurasian Eagle-Owl and the Little Owl, both of which are adapted to the Mediterranean landscape. These owls thrive in Provence due to the abundant open areas for hunting and the old growth forests for nesting.

The Eurasian Eagle-Owl, one of the largest owl species, is particularly admired for its impressive size and distinctive ear tufts. This owl prefers rocky outcrops and quiet woodlands, making the rugged terrain of Provence ideal. On the other hand, the smaller, more elusive Little Owl enjoys the region's olive groves and vineyards, where it hunts insects and small mammals.
