Vintage octagonal terre melee plate from Apt 11"

A stunning "terres mêlées" marbleized clay octagonal plate from Apt (the capital of the Luberon in Provence). The tradition of mixing different colored clays to create beautiful marbleized pottery like this is a technique regional to Provencal towns like Apt and Uzes, and the tradition dates back to the mid-eighteenth century, before the French Revolution. A lovely piece to add to a collection of unique French pottery.
