Wilhelmus Adrianus van Berkel was a butcher in Rotterdam in the late 19th century. He invented a cutting edge slicer then evolved his business to manufacture scales. This fine Berkel scale dates to circa 1950's and was used by merchants including butcher's, fishmongers, boulangers and charcuterie specialists.
A charming piece to enjoy on display in the kitchen. It is made with enamel, steel and other metals and is heavy.
Functional although not calibrated.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
