This very large gilded mirror dates from the eighteenth century, Louis XV period, and was made in Provence. The size is monumental - hence the two glass panes as at the time it was not possible to make glass large enough to be one single piece. Thesculptural frame is decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves, olive branches and flowers - the detail and relief is extraordinary. This spectacular mirror was sourced from a Hôtel Particulier in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. Note minor losses and some wear to the gilding.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
