This charming early 20th century wooden folding screen comprises four panels and features two contrasting decorative finishes. One side is painted in soft, muted tones with delicate bird motifs perched on flowering branches, evoking an East Asian aesthetic with a light and poetic touch.  The composition is airy and asymmetrical, set against a gently aged cream background with patina and texture that enhance its subtle decorative quality. The reverse is covered with a dark lacquered canvas enriched with gilt chinoiserie scenes. These depict stylized landscapes, figures, and architectural elements in a dense composition. This creates a striking contrast with the lighter painted side, not only in terms of colour but also between richly layered composition and a more open, airy one.
Each panel is topped with a shaped crest, lending an elegant, undulating silhouette to the upper line. In contrast, the feet are simple and straight, subtly elevating the ensemble and bringing a sense of lightness to the overall form. The screen folds easily, making it both decorative and practical as a room divider or backdrop.
Inspired by the long European fascination with Asian art known as chinoiserie, a style that remained highly popular into the early 20th century, this screen reflects a taste for refinement and escapism. A versatile and characterful piece, ideal for adding decorative interest and historical depth to an interior.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
