These two monochrome landscapes date from the nineteenth century. Inspired by two works by master printmaker and painter Jean-Baptiste Le Prince (French, 1734 - 1781), entitled "Rural Recreation" and "Landscape with Watermill."
Each scene portrays tranquil daily life in the French countryside during the 1700s. Jean-Baptiste Le Prince was an artist celebrated for his outstanding etchings and aquatint prints. Note the gradations of light and shade.
NB: there is a small water strain in the top left. Artist unknown.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
