This gorgeous water pitcher or ‘cruche de tête’ was used for collecting water from the village fountain, carried back to the home on the head. Most likely made made with clay from Lahitte-Toupière in the Hautes-Pyrénées (south west France). Pitchers like this were made from the eighteenth to twentieth-century. This example is most likely late nineteenth-century.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
