Dating from the start of the twentieth century, a stunning bright ochre kanti from France featuring playful yellow glaze decorations on the top. One side of the top features a name, perhaps indicating it was a special order piece such as a gift perhaps for a bride as on her wedding day. Kanti pitchers are from the Languedoc region of south west France. They are similar to water cruches except that they are entirely closed on top - there is no lid to open and close (or lose!) They were originally used for fetching water from the village fountain.
