This distinctive small terracotta vase, crafted by Marcel Giraud in Vallauris during the 1950s / 1960s, showcases Giraud's signature textured pattern with earthy tones and a rustic glaze. Born in Vallauris in 1937, Giraud began his ceramic career early, leaving school at 13 to apprentice under Blaise Rubino. After gaining experience at several local workshops, he opened his own studio in 1960, primarily creating functional ceramics. By 1975, Giraud expanded his work to include painting and sculpture, producing decorative figures and objects. His work remains emblematic of mid-century Vallauris ceramics, characterized by a blend of practicality and artistic expression.
