This charming little iron gate has enclosed the niche in the students kitchen at Chanteduc for decades. Inside the niche, a 2011 magnum bottle from Domaine Raspail-Ay, a wine domaine in Gigondas.
Domaine Raspail-Ay is a prestigious winery located in the Gigondas appellation of the southern Rhône region in France. The estate has a rich history that dates back to 1854 when Eugène Raspail established it. It has since become synonymous with high-quality Gigondas wines.
The winery gained prominence under the guidance of Dominique Ay, who took over in the 1970s. Under his stewardship, Domaine Raspail-Ay became known for producing robust and elegant red wines, primarily from Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes. These wines are celebrated for their balance, depth, and ability to age gracefully. Domaine Raspail-Ay meticulously tends its vineyards using traditional, organic winemaking methods to highlight the natural character of its grapes. Dominique Ay's minimal intervention approach has earned the estate critical acclaim, firmly establishing it as a benchmark producer in Gigondas and a true representative of the region's wine heritage.
