This petite wasp trap is crafted from clear glass, with a rounded body and small feet to keep it stable on a flat surface. Its delicate, mouth-blown appearance and minor air bubbles give it a charming, rustic character. Designed with a central opening at the top, it was traditionally used to attract and trap wasps and flies by filling the base with a sweet liquid. Insects, attracted by the sugary syrup at the base of the vessel become trapped when they fly inside.
Wasp traps like this one were commonly used in the 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in vineyards and orchards to protect fruit and wine production. The design allowed wasps to enter through the hole but made it difficult for them to escape, reducing their presence near food and drinks. These functional yet elegantly simple glass objects were often found hanging from tree branches or placed on outdoor tables.
Today, this vintage wasp trap can be repurposed as a decorative accent in a rustic or country-style interior. It can serve as a delicate vase for dried flowers, a candle holder, or a unique tabletop display piece. Placed on a kitchen shelf or a garden table, it brings a nostalgic farmhouse charm to any setting.
