A distinctive and unusual set of four slender beveled glass finger plates, mid-20th century, from Italy, likely Murano, reverse-painted with lively Commedia dell’arte figures. Each elongated panel features a different character set within scrolling gilt ornament inspired by 18th-century chinoiserie and rocaille motifs, all on a softly silvered ground. The palette combines warm ochres, reds, and blues, creating a vibrant contrast against the mirrored surface, now gently aged with areas of oxidation that enhance their antique charm. Each plate is pierced with small holes for screws (not included).
The paired “double” elements were originally designed for the lock side (reverse) of a door, where they were mounted above and below the exposed lock mechanism to protect the surrounding surface from wear. On the front, a single plate would typically be fitted with cutouts for both the handle spindle and the keyhole.
Each plate can now be used individually or in pairs to decorate cupboard or cabinet doors. Their lively figures, shimmering silvered grounds, and gently aged surfaces give them a distinctive charm and a richly decorative presence.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
