Villeroy & Boch is a renowned ceramics manufacturer founded in 1748 in the village of Audun-le-Tiche, which at that time was part of the Duchy of Lorraine and is now in France. The company was established by François Boch and his three sons. Initially, they were known for producing ceramic tableware and later expanded their operations.

In 1801, the Boch family merged with the business of Nicolas Villeroy, who had begun his ceramics production in 1785 in Wallerfangen, Saarland. Villeroy was an innovator who had introduced new decorative techniques such as copper plate printing for ceramics. This merger marked the beginning of the Villeroy & Boch company.

Over the years, Villeroy & Boch has gained a reputation for quality and design, producing not only tableware but also tiles and sanitary ceramics. They played a significant role in industrializing ceramic production, making beautifully designed products more widely available.

The company survived the vicissitudes of European history, including the two World Wars, by adapting its production lines and expanding its market reach. Today, Villeroy & Boch is known worldwide, combining innovation and tradition in its broad range of products, and it remains a significant player in the ceramics industry.
