Bernard Buffat is a distinguished French ceramist recognized for his significant contributions to mid-20th-century French pottery. He honed his craft under the mentorship of Jean-Marie Paquaud at the Poterie du Chals. Between 1961 and 1974, with a brief hiatus in 1964, Buffat collaborated with René and Madeleine de Valence at "La Grange aux Potiers," an atelier established in the 1940s in Beaurepaire, Isère, before relocating to Gervans in the Drôme department in 1960. This workshop was renowned for its innovative ceramics that blended traditional techniques with modern aesthetics.

During his tenure, Buffat played a pivotal role in modernizing ceramic forms and decorations, contributing to the atelier's esteemed reputation. His expertise was later recognized with the prestigious title of "Meilleur Ouvrier de France".
