This Provencale landscape dates from the 1930s and is signed Paul de Castro (1882-1940). The bucolic sunny scene depicts a stone farmhouse on a country road with tall poplars and olive trees. Oil on canvas, original frame.

Paul de Castro studied painting at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris in the workshops of Fernand Cormon and Eugene Thirion. He exhibited at the Salon des Independants, at the Salon de la Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts as well as at the Salon d'Automne. Mainly specializing in landscape, he painted the parks and streets of Paris and provincial views. Castro was made a Knight of the Order of the Legion of Honor.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
