This exquisite petit parcloses mirror from the Louis XIV period is a refined example of early 18th-century craftsmanship, distinguished by its richly sculpted and gilded wooden frame that features delicately inset mirrored parcloses surrounding the central glass. These slender mirrored panels add layers of reflection and light, heightening the frame’s visual richness and architectural depth. The gilded surface has developed a wonderfully timeworn patina, soft and warm, with areas of wear that reveal the age and authenticity of the piece.

The original mercury mirror has beautifully foxed over time, its silvery surface now softly mottled, lending the reflection a poetic, almost painterly quality.

This mirror carries the unmistakable charm of centuries past, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of Louis XIV’s decorative arts.

Hang it in a powder room, above a console in a narrow hallway, or layered among a gallery wall of antique prints to create a captivating focal point. This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non harmful state.
