The origins
Founded on February 2, 1821by the brothers Ferdinand-Louis de Bousies, Charles de Bousies (viscount of Rouveroy), their cousin the knight Adolphe de Bousies and the baron Frédéric de Sécus , the earthenware factory of Onnaing was initially a new establishment of the Belgian factory of Nimy , intended to circumvent customs duties. From 1827, the factory was bought several times and in 1894 became the Société Anonyme de la Faïencerie d'Onnaing.
The century of expansion
From the end of the 19th century, the pottery factory of Onnaing grew to directly employ 500 workers. It benefits from the extension of the railway network which allows it both to source raw materials and to export its production. At the height of its expansion, the factory covered more than 6 hectares.
The decline
The destruction due to the First World War strongly affected the factory: ovens, molds, buildings were destroyed. The restart of production in 1921 did not return to the levels of the beginning of the century. Demand also changed and production ceased in 1938. The factory was definitively liquidated in 1947.
