Louis XV walnut secretary desk 37¾" x 20¾"

This charming "Dos d'âne" or "Donkey's back" desk from the late 18th century (Louis XV period) showcases the elegant curves and craftsmanship of the era. Made in Provence from solid walnut, the bureau has been recently sanded to reveal its beautiful natural woodgrain. The piece features a contoured drop-front desk, which opens to reveal four interior drawers and a secret compartment, perfect for storing personal items. The bureau has three drawers on the front and is gracefully curved on all three faces, resting on four out-turned cabriole legs. It includes bronze keyplates, one lock is functional, the other two are not and there are some old repairs. A lovely piece for a guestroom or bedroom.
