A charming rectangular antique Louis XIV-period mercury mirror featuring a sculpted giltwood and plaster frame. The mirror allows one to see one's reflection however there is quite a bit of foxing patina. Note the names on the back may represent previous owners. A delightful piece with stories to tell from the many reflections it has seen since the 1700s.
This mirror will complement both modern and classic interiors and can be hung both vertically and horizontally.
Please note photos to observe aged patina and losses to plaster.
This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non harmful state.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
