A stunning Louis XIV-period (King of France from 1643-1715) giltwood frame. This frame was likely first used as a frame for a religious ornament in a church in France with the addition of a bronze cross in the center mounted on a velvet background. (See similar here).
Note its gilded frame is covered in scrolling acanthus leaves and crowned with a shell motif of impressive size, typical of Louis XIV-period pieces, and daisy flowers representing typical Provençal design. Today, this lovely frame would make a delightful frame for a mirror to add a touch of French charm and history to your home. Note the aged gilding color and stunning condition for its age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
