André Planson (1898-1981) was a distinguished French painter, watercolorist, illustrator, and designer. Born on April 10, 1898, in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre, Seine-et-Marne, Planson devoted himself to painting full-time following World War I. He refined his craft under the guidance of landscape artist Paul Meslé and at the Académie Ranson with Denis. His studies extended to the Louvre, and he later imparted his knowledge at the Académie Julian in Paris.
Planson's oeuvre spans allegorical subjects, figures, nudes, portraits, genre scenes, landscapes, seascapes, and murals. His work is often associated with "Poetic Reality," blending traditional techniques with elements of Fauvism and influences from Courbet. Recognized for his contributions to the arts, Planson was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur and became a member of the Institut de France in 1960.
His landscapes of Île de France, Provence, and Brittany, as well as his nudes and decorative compositions, have garnered high praise and are highly valued.
