This charming handmade terracotta Santon sculpture from Marseille, depicting a small lamb lying down, reflects the artistry of Provençal nativity scenes. With hand-painted details on its natural, rustic surface, this piece carries the authenticity of traditional Provençal craftsmanship. There are 27 available, making it possible to purchase individually or as part of a larger collection. Santons, meaning “little saints,” are a cherished part of Christmas traditions in Provence.

Dating back to the French Revolution, these figurines were first created by artisans to replace church nativity scenes that had been banned. Over the centuries, Santons have evolved into an integral part of Christmas decorations in southern France, adorning crèches and bringing the nativity story to life with depictions of not only the Holy Family but also local villagers, animals, and everyday characters. This sweet lamb adds a gentle touch to any nativity scene, bringing warmth and a sense of heritage to seasonal decor.
