This late 19th-century "semainier" is crafted from richly figured flame mahogany veneer with a deep, glossy varnish. It features seven apparent drawers, though the bottom one is actually a double-depth compartment, offering larger storage space. The drawers glide smoothly but no longer lock, as the key is missing. Delicate floral-shaped metal knobs contrast beautifully with the dark gray marble top and the imposing lion’s paw feet, which are intricately carved with lifelike fur details.

Semainiers, originally designed in the 18th century to hold a week's worth of linen or clothing, became particularly popular in France during the 19th century. This example reflects the influence of Empire-style furniture, with its grand proportions, refined ornamentation, and classical references, such as the noble lion’s paws. This striking semainier can serve as a statement piece in a bedroom, offering both storage and a touch of historical grandeur. Styled in a library or hallway, it pairs well with neoclassical décor and dark wood accents, while the marble top provides an ideal surface for decorative objects such as busts, gilded mirrors, or antique books.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
