Dating from the late-nineteenth to early twentieth century, this lovely, relatively large jug was used for water or milk (hot and cold). It is numbered "6" underneath representing the size. It is glazed inside and out but not underneath as it was to be used over heat - one can see the charred base from years of cooking. This was made in the Savoy region (French Alps) where spotted pottery was traditionally made.
