A late 19th century French wool tapestry from Provence, from the armory hall of the Seigneurie de Venasque, depicting a lively harvest scene with figures in 17th century costume among orchards and gathered sheaves. Venasque is a historic hilltop village in the Vaucluse department of southeastern France, near Carpentras and at the foot of Mont Ventoux.
The composition is framed by a rich fruit and foliage border and handwoven in softly aged tones of wheat ochre, sage green, deep claret, and slate blue against a warm cream ground. The weaving displays fine quality and careful craftsmanship, with clear detail and a lively sense of movement across the pastoral scene.
Generous in scale and full of pastoral narrative, the tapestry has strong decorative presence while retaining fine woven detail. It could be professionally stretched or mounted on a support frame, which would help smooth the surface and allow the scene and border to be displayed to their full decorative effect.
Ideal for a stair hall, dining room, or library, this generous tapestry brings depth, warmth, and a sense of history to an interior. Its large scale and narrative scene create a strong focal point, lending quiet grandeur and the atmosphere of a historic Provençal residence.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
