This superb cast glass vase, signed Le Verre Français dates from the 1920s. The blown glass has several layers and was also acid etched to achieve the pretty design. The stylized flowers are evocative of angel's trumpet flowers. This vase is particularly rare due to its large size.
Charles Schneider (1881-1953) was a Master Glassmaker known for skillfully making pâte de verre vases and decorative objects in the Art Nouveau & Art Deco style. He created Le Verre Francais signature (with his brother, who was the businessman).
In the early days, the brothers collaborated with Daum, and with the support of Antonin Daum, Charles attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. The brothers founded the Schneider glassworks (1913 - 1938) - which had a difficult beginning due to the war - but they contributed to the war effort by producing medicinal glassware.
Vases produced by Schneider glassworks were made in two standards - When pieces are signed Schneider - this signifies Charles Schneider and is the prestige line. Le Verre Français signature signifies the “general public” line (also known as Charder from 1925).
