A large Louis XVI trumeau mirror in two plates, indicating its late-eighteenth-century age (a time when it was easier to fashion large mirrors in two parts). Painted in the top section is a lively and romanticized rural scene of village folk sorting freshly harvested vegetables, perhaps in preparation for a farmer's market. The trumeau's backing has a painted blue finish, while both mirror and painting have gilded frames.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
