This handsome 18th century commode from Nîmes is crafted in solid walnut and reflects the robust yet refined character of southern French furniture. The apron is particularly notable, featuring a deeply carved openwork motif that brings movement and sculptural interest to the piece. The commode stands on shaped legs terminating in hoof foot at both the front and rear, aligning with the rustic elegance of provincial furniture. Its warm patina and rich grain further enhance its strong presence and decorative appeal.
The façade features two generously proportioned drawers, each outlined with molded panels and fitted with finely worked bronze handles and escutcheons, adding both elegance and contrast to the warm walnut tones. The piece displays a rich, timeworn patina consistent with age and use, with some surface wear and old wormholes, while remaining solid and fully functional.
A characterful and authentic commode of true heirloom quality, beautifully suited to a bedroom, hallway, or living space, bringing warmth, craftsmanship, and the enduring charm of southern France to any interior.
