Grand near black lacquer rectangular mirror, circa 1900s 66¼ x 43¼"

A grand near black lacquer mirror, circa 1900s, France. This large mirror features its original mercury glass in excellent condition. It is easy to see one's reflection. The color is a very dark brown, near black, as seen in the photos. This piece would blend effortlessly in both modern and traditional interiors. It can be hung both horizontally or vertically to accommodate a range of spaces. 

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.

Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.

This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non-harmful state.
