This large Louis Philippe mirror features a beautifully silvered frame, showcasing elegant curves and clean lines characteristic of the style. Delicate engravings on the frame add a refined decorative touch, further enhancing its timeless elegance. The silver leaf, time-worn and subtly faded, reveals the base beneath in a charming and authentic way. Gentle signs of age on the glass, including tarnishing and wear, only add to its antique allure.

Originating in France during the reign of Louis Philippe (1830-1848), this style of mirror became renowned for its understated yet sophisticated design. The panes were typically mercury-backed or silvered, as seen in this example. It retains its maker's label, visible on the back of the pane due to the loss of the original plate (though a new back will be mounted to ensure the mirror's protection).

Incorporating this mirror into modern décor brings a touch of historical elegance. Its imposing presence makes it perfect for a grand entryway or as a striking focal point above a mantelpiece. It could also serve as a statement piece in a bedroom or dressing area.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
