Dating from the twentieth century, a large French barbotine platter with glossy, lustrous glaze depicting a dog hunt. The terracotta is richly glazed with hues of midnight blue and forest greens and browns. The edges of the platter are wrapped in large oak leaves, acorns, and carved branches coming from the large oak tree in the scene's center.
There are handy holes on either side to mount on a wall if desired. Note some wear to the black dog's ears. Unsigned, but evocative of a similar style platter from the French faience Sarreguemines. Barbotine is the French term for ceramic slip, or a mixture of clay and water used for molding or decorating pottery.
