A delightful Art Deco vintage opalescent glass snail holding a set of 5 escargot picks. The glass snail was made by carefully molding the form then worked by hand. There is a cavity with a metal sleeve to hold the forks. A superb gift for a Francophile and whimsical conversation piece to bring out while entertaining! This piece is evocative of the Art Deco style of the Sabino France glassworks company.
Marius Ernest Sabino (1878-1961) was born in Sicily and moved to Paris. After attending the L'Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs and the Beaux Arts de Paris, he developed his passion for glass making, creating molds that he poured opalescent glass into. Sabino and Lalique are the leaders of this style of decorative glass. Sabino also crafted decorative and functional glassware through collaborative efforts with companies such as Baccarat, the Paris Glass Company and Depinoix.
