A set of eight Art Deco escargot picks in a translucent, matte glass snail from the early twentieth century. The glass snail was made by carefully molding the form then worked by hand. There is a cavity with a metal sleeve to hold the forks.
Although unsigned, it is attributed to the Sabino France glassworks. Marius Ernest Sabino (1878-1961) was born in Sicily and moved to Paris. After attending the L'Ecole Nationale des Arts Decoratifs and the Beaux Arts de Paris, he developed his passion for glass making, creating molds that he poured opalescent glass into. Sabino and Lalique are the leaders of this style of decorative glass. Sabino also crafted decorative and functional glassware through collaborative efforts with companies such as Baccarat, the Paris Glass Company and Depinoix.
This is so French / Bourguignon! A superb gift for a Francophile.
