A delicate study of a rose, this framed botanical print brings a calm, romantic note to an interior. The soft blush petals and finely veined leaves are rendered in color lithography on wove paper, the plate titled Rosa inermis at the lower margin. The sheet shows light foxing and gentle toning, while the slim gilt frame has minor scuffs and rubbing, together forming a soft, timeworn patina that enhances the print’s vintage charm.
This print is an early 20th-century reproduction of one of the celebrated engravings by Pierre-Joseph Redouté (1759–1840), often regarded as the “Raphael of flowers” for the refinement of his botanical paintings. It reflects a long tradition of garden portraiture that bridges scientific accuracy with poetic beauty.
Hang it in a dressing room, powder room, or above a writing desk, or incorporate it into a gallery wall with other natural history studies to create a layered, serene composition that evokes the elegance and delicacy of classical botanical art.
