This French Charles X era (1814–1830) mirror features a refined gilt stucco frame with delicate ornamental motifs. The mercury glass is exceptionally clear and beautifully preserved, offering a luminous reflection characteristic of early 19th-century craftsmanship. Some minor chips on the stucco frame add to its antique charm without compromising its elegance.

Mirrors from the Charles X era are known for their subtle opulence and fine decorative details, often reflecting the transition between Empire grandeur and emerging Romanticism. Mercury glass, used in this piece, was the preferred technique of the time, producing a unique depth and brilliance that modern mirrors lack.

This mirror is versatile and would seamlessly enhance a classic or eclectic interior. Its elegant proportions make it an excellent choice for a bathroom, bringing historical character and brightness to the space. Alternatively, placed above a fireplace or console, it would add timeless sophistication to a living area or hallway.

Condition and patina consistent with age.

This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non harmful state.

Approx. overall 45" high x 33" wide x 3½" thick
Approx. overall 114cm high x 84cm wide x 9cm thick

Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
