Group of 4 mounted French sea shells, 19th-century

This set of four mounted seashells dates to the 19^th century. They are incredibly fine and transparent in parts. Originally displayed in a Cabinet de curiosités – a room used for displaying collections of natural history objects, a concept which began in the 16^th century.

Largest: approx. 6½” wide x 8½” high

Smallest: approx. 4” wide x 6¼” high

Largest: 17cm wide x 22cm high
