Mirror, Chapeau gendarme, black & mercury, 19th-c

This antique French mirror dates to circa 1820 and retains its original mercury glass which has a lightly aged patina. The top of the frame arches slightly mimicking the silhouette of a chapeau gendarme (policeman’s hat). The back of the mirror is beautifully crafted parquetry. The condition is consistent with age and use.
