An exceptional set of Art Deco bookends depicting Pierrot (the sad clown) and Columbine - his love interest who breaks his heart. They were pantomime characters from the seventeenth-century commedia dell'arte. The bookends are made from marble, onyx and pewter.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
