Dating from the late-nineteenth century, this weighty stone mortar has beautiful, curved lobes and is in great condition. The wooden pestle is not the original but works well with the mortar.
This superb piece would look wonderful on the kitchen counter. Most likely from Provence and traditionally used to prepare the soup "pistou". Includes pestle and tassel.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
