Antique French Wrought Iron Gun Rack with Mountain Scene, circa 1900 42¼"

SKU: 20084

US$1,531
This extraordinary French gun rack, crafted around 1900, is a unique example of fine metalwork, showcasing a wonderfully detailed mountain scene with a deer, towering pine tree, and rugged peaks. The central panel is decorated using the tôle repoussée technique—a traditional method where metal is hammered from the reverse side to create a raised, embossed design. This artisanal approach highlights the skill of the ironmonger, with each element, from the landscape to the deer, brought to life in relief.

The gun rack is designed to hold four guns horizontally, with riveted hooks along the frame and additional hooks at the bottom, allowing for versatile display or additional hanging options. Each part of the rack, from its decorative rivets to the finely textured iron borders, speaks to the quality and craftsmanship of the piece. Intended for wall mounting, it serves not only as a functional item but as a striking work of art, embodying the rugged beauty of the French mountains in wrought iron.
