Antique French Terracotta Water Whistle w/ Yellow Glaze 3½"

This is a small whistle in the shape of a miniature jug, designed to function when filled with water. The jug has a spherical body with a curved handle, a short spout, and sits on a simple pedestal base. The surface is glazed in a soft yellow hue, while the base remains unglazed, showing the natural clay beneath.

To activate the whistle, water is poured into the jug, and when air is blown through the spout, the sound is amplified by the water inside, creating a unique musical tone.

These types of water whistles were common in traditional pottery from southern France, particularly in regions like Aubagne, where they were made both as playful objects and decorative items.
