An exquisite antique French tray made by Christofle. The hallmarks read Gallia, 4025 and there is a rooster and horse. This would make a superb gift for a special occasion.
Introduced during the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, the Gallia Collection is named after a notable metal alloy from its era. Gallia, referencing "Gaul," is symbolized by a rooster hallmark, celebrating French innovation. This material significantly impacted Christofle’s history, known for its superior quality and durability, allowing it to be cast in steel molds for longer-lasting products.
Gallia quickly became Christofle’s creative hub, introducing bold and modern styles that diverged from traditional Louis XVI and 18th-19th century motifs. The advent of Art Nouveau, with its stylized Nature themes, set the stage for new artistic expressions. From 1900 onwards, under the Gallia name and Christofle’s guidance, exceptional artists and designers collaborated on avant-garde projects, their works marked by the rooster hallmark, symbolizing a century of innovation and artistic excellence.
