Dating from the end of the nineteenth century, southwest France, this delightful cruche features a lovely glossy yellow demi-glaze. Glazed terracotta ewers like these were used for fetching water from the village fountain for domestic use. This piece would be the perfect addition to an existing collection of pottery or to add a special touch of French to your home. Note the small hole placed through the top of the lid which was once used to serve a practical purpose of allowing one to string rope through and tie around the handle so not to lose the lid. Note some pitting to the glaze as seen in photos.
