Dating from the end of the nineteenth/start of the twentieth century, this charming collection of French country cheese pots and complementing bowl comes from the Lozère region of France. These glazed and perforated terracotta pots were used on a farm for faisselle cheese. They are a lovely collection varying in size and glaze color - some are slightly larger than typical. This set includes a complementing tiered ceramic bowl specifically designed for the purpose of collecting the curds and whey which drips through the holes in the cheese pots.
Today they would make delightful small cache pots for plants with a drainable container placed inside first to decorate an outdoor party table setting or simply as decorations on a shelf of pottery. See video for accompanying bright ochre-glazed terracotta tiered bowl. Note the worn glazing as seen in photos.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
