Julius Caesar (100-44 BC)
Julius Caesar was a Roman general, statesman, and pivotal figure in the transition from the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. Born in 100 BC, he rose to power through military successes in Gaul (58-50 BC). In 49 BC, he crossed the Rubicon, leading to a civil war. After emerging victorious, he became dictator for life in 44 BC. His reforms expanded the Senate and improved the Roman calendar (Julian calendar). Caesar's assassination on March 15, 44 BC, by a group of senators led to the end of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire under his heir, Augustus.
