A rare vintage steel block-pushing tool, used in mining or the quarrying industry. Its pillow-like shape was designed to separate stone blocks or facilitate lifting during certain operations. It was inserted flat into saw cuts or smaller cracks in the stone, then inflated with a pneumatic system through the valve in one corner to help split the stone block. The metal has developed a natural patina over time, highlighting its use and age.
Metal versions like this have become increasingly rare as they are being replaced by PVC alternatives. This object is a testament to early 20th-century industrial methods and would make a fascinating addition to a collection of technical or industrial objects, but is also highly decorative and can serve as a playful accent in a living room.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
