Dating from the twentieth century, a charming pair of pair of square concrete planters with a terracotta-like painted finish. Their shapes feature the winged lion of Venice and Saint Mark repeated on all four corners. In ancient Greek and Roman traditions, winged lion statues were placed outside their homes as a symbol of prosperity, power, bravery, wisdom, and royalty.
Perhaps the most famous association of the winged lion is with the city of Venice, Italy, where it symbolizes the Evangelist Saint Mark, the city's patron saint.
