A peaceful, bucolic watercolor landscape from the nineteenth century. The bright daytime scene shows roosters and hens enjoying a courtyard, most likely part of a farm in the south of France. This charming rural image depicts a classic Provençal green door, left ajar, next to a fountain and hay-covered ground where the animals are pecking and frolicking about.
The portrait rather than landscape orientation is unusual.
Signed A. Sivan, in the lower left corner. The piece is framed by a brilliant and intricately detailed gilded frame from the same epoch.
