This exquisite gold leaf Louis XVI style mirror dates from the nineteenth-century. Note the deep, sculptural frame decorated with laurel motifs.
In Louis XVI French design, laurel leaf garlands and decorations symbolized victory, triumph, and eternal glory. These motifs were influenced by Neoclassicism, reflecting the era's admiration for ancient Greek and Roman art. Laurel leaves were used to convey nobility, success, and a timeless legacy, commonly adorning furniture, mirror frames, textiles, and architectural elements of the period. Some wear to top left corner of frame as seen in photos.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
