This lovely antique French gilded mirror dates from the nineteenth century and includes its original mercury plate. Note the pearling details using a more modern technique of string and gesso to fix and mold the pearls. Note the pretty lamb's tongue detail on the outer frame. This mirror will complement both modern and classic interiors and can be hung both vertically and horizontally. A perfect way to add a touch of French charm to your home.
Note: This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non-harmful state.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
